ODU Sport Management Students Host Charity Fund-Raiser 6月 20

Students in Andi Lyons' Sport Event Management class are hosting a charity event that is a spinoff - or "splash-off" - of a popular party game.

“不要撞车。, Make a Splash" water pong charity tournament will be held 6月 20 in Webb Center to raise funds for Students Against Destructive Decisions, an organization created to teach good decision-making skills to young people through peer-to-peer mentorship.

Instead of having to take a drink of alcohol if an opponent bounces a ping pong ball into one of their cups, participants simply have to worry about getting wet.

"This will be an amazing opportunity to show students and adults that you can have a fantastic time playing pong without the involvement of alcohol, and raise money for the Students Against Destructive Decisions organization at the same time," said Kelvin Marin-Solis, leader of the SMGT 453 students planning the event.

The 16-team event will be held from 12 - 4 p.m., in the North Café of Webb Center. Pre-Registration for the tournament is $5, and registration is $10 on the day of the event. Proceeds from this event will go to the Students against Destructive Decisions organization.

The registration desk for the competition will open at 11:30 a.m. All 16 teams will be placed into a bracket. Games will begin at approximately 12 p.m. until there is only one team remaining.

Students Against Destructive Decisions was originally created to help deter young people from drinking and driving. Today, SADD's mission has expanded.

The organization operates on the belief that positive peer pressure, role modeling and environmental strategies can prevent other destructive decisions and set young people on a healthier, safer course for their lives.

SADD is dedicated to peer-to-peer education, prevention and activism aimed at preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, 其他药物使用情况, risky and impaired driving, teen violence and teen suicide.
